It is with profound sadness that we inform you about the death of Still Hot Yoga instructor Randy Smith.

SHY held a Memorial Donation class in Randy’s honor on Sunday, September 18 at 10 am.

Randy began practicing at SHY (then Bikram Yoga Decatur) in 2005 while he was still a Sargent in the US Army where he worked as a Technology Information Specialist. In 2009, shortly after retiring from his 30 year Service, Randy become a certified Bikram Yoga instructor and began teaching for us. Always energetic and ambitious, Randy was several years into a new career with the US State Department and recently began teaching at Hot Yoga of John’s Creek.

One of our most beloved instructors, Randy’s style was an enthusiastic blend of mock Drill Sargent and compassionate, cheerful coach. With his passion for hot yoga, enthusiasm for teaching and effusive encouragements to visitors to his classes, Randy attracted a large and dedicated following of practitioners to his Sunday morning yoga “service.”

To paraphrase one of Randy’s oft-repeated and spirited instructions,

“He touched it (our hearts) at Still Hot Yoga.”

We are soliciting photos, anecdotes and memories of Randy that will be presented to his family. If you would like to contribute please use the contact form on this page.

Memorial Services were held at Saint Philip A.M.E. Church at 240 Candler Rd, Atlanta GA 30317 on Monday, September 19 at 10:30 am.

After the service Randy was buried with full military honors at the GA National Cemetery in Canton.
